Brussels Mobility (BE)
Brussels Mobility is the administrative body responsible for infrastructure, public works and transport within the Ministry of the Brussels-Capital Region. It looks after transport strategies, facilities projects, renewal and maintenance of public spaces and regional roads (main roads and crossroads, tunnels and viaducts), infrastructure for public transport such as the metro network and taxis. It carries out thereby missions that are essential to the quality of life in the Region and to its harmonious and sustainable development. We work in collaboration with the municipalities responsible for local roads to:
- Ensure the maintenance and safety of the network: carry out salting in wintertime, repair and asphalt damaged roads, manage traffic lights, renew road markings, maintain and renovate tunnels, manage roadside trees, lighting and artworks
- Manage traffic: alarm systems, cameras and detection loops allow to monitor traffic in Brussels and to manage events and accidents
- Create public spaces that are pleasant and functional for all users as well as accessible to people with reduced mobility
- Promote sustainable transport modes for people and goods: we develop facilities around public transport, cycling and pedestrians and organise awareness campaigns to promote the use of these sustainable transport modes.
In the field of goods transportation, we set up the general strategy of the Region to reach the European objective of carbon free city logistics by 2030. Brussels Mobility is responsible of the implementation of this strategy and its evaluation.
