Making progress in Karlsruhe

lamilo partnership meeting-karlsruhe20 December 2013

The LaMiLo partners met for the fourth project partnership meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany last month. Hosted by the PTV group, thirteen partners from seven North West European countries attended to discuss updates on project delivery, exchange ideas and agree plans for the next phase of the project.

The meeting started with a focus on the project demonstrators. As part of an update on the pilot consolidation centre activity in Brussels, Brussels Mobility provided feedback on their survey on freight flows, with 3,004 responses from private sector organisations received on issues such as frequency of deliveries, vehicles used and type of item sent, for example parcel or pallet of goods. The next steps will be to finalise plans for delivering the consolidation centre in the coming months and procure an inventory of real estate logistics next year.

The London Borough of Camden’s consolidation pilot is progressing well in phase one of their three work streams to deliver stationery and cleaning supplies to the councils’ offices in Enfield, Waltham Forest and Camden from the consolidation centre. The tender process for the logistics provider was completed and the contract was awarded to DHL.

The trial will be officially launched in March 2014.

In the Netherlands, Eco2City provided an update on the trials. The Parceladdress service is a solution to the problem of deliveries of the ever increasing number of parcels from consumers’ shopping on the internet. Parceladdress is a business to consumer concept which will be initially launched in three areas: the first in Nijmegen in January 2014, S-Hertogenbosch in April 2014 and also in Maastricht later this year. Parceladdress customers can choose to have their goods delivered to them by electric bike at a convenient time; to collect their goods from a centrally located parcel shop; or to collect their goods from centrally located locker facilities.

Eco2City also announced that the next behavioural change workshop will be held in London in February 2014. Further updates were given on other project activity including progress on the development of sustainable indicators and benchmarking and gathering examples of best practice.

The next partnership meeting will take place in Paris in April 2014.
