Solutions for the private sector

Utilising the research and benchmarking information from other elements of the project, this activity will develop and implement practical sustainable last mile logistics plans, to meet business requirements and reduce the environmental impact of urban logistics.

The project will engage with ten logistics companies to assess their business and operational plans, and work with the companies to amend their existing business models to create a more sustainable logistics plan. These plans will be tested to understand whether technical and operational considerations can lead to viable and sustainable solutions, which meet business requirements.

The project quantified the impact of existing last mile logistics operations in the private sector, in terms of cost, carbon and congestion. It reviewed the effect on noise pollution, business efficiencies and jobs. A range of existing tools and techniques to calculate these impacts were reviewed and used where appropriate.
